FESA Continues to Grow: Three New Members Confirmed as General Assembly Defines Vision Towards 2030

Wednesday, September 30, 2026

The General Assembly of the Federation of European Ski & Snowboard Associations (FESA) took place on 30 September 2026 in Geneva as part of the FIS Technical Committee Meetings. Representatives of the member associations reviewed the federation's activities of recent months, approved key strategic decisions, and discussed the future development of snow sports in Europe.

A key focus was the presentation of the outcomes of FESA's Strategic Workshop in August 2026. The newly elected Board and Management Team defined the federation's priorities towards 2030. Central objectives include strengthening the visibility and brand of FESA, establishing European Championships, expanding athlete development opportunities, and creating greater value for member associations and partners. Melanja Korošec, chair of FESA Marketing Commission, presented initiatives aimed at further increasing the visibility and recognition of FESA.

The General Assembly also approved the establishment of a new Snowboard Commission, which will focus on the structural development of snowboarding within FESA and strengthen cooperation among national federations in this growing discipline.

Delegates reaffirmed their commitment to Nordic Combined following its removal from the Olympic programme. FESA emphasized that the discipline remains an integral part of European winter sports and confirmed its intention to work closely with FIS and national ski associations to support athletes, organizing committees, and advocate for the sport's return to the Olympic programme as quickly as possible.

The future implementation of European Championships was another important topic. Member associations unanimously recognized these events as a key step in further promoting snow sports in Europe and creating additional development opportunities for athletes.

The General Assembly welcomed FIS President Alexander Ospelt and FIS Secretary General Urs Lehmann, who underlined the importance of strong cooperation between FIS and FESA. Both organizations share the common goal of strengthening snow sports through joint projects, education programmes, and athlete development initiatives. As an example, the successful implementation of the Speed Academy, part of the Alpine Performance Series with 5 locations across Europe in 2026/27, was presented as an important tool in the education of coaches and athletes in alpine speed disciplines.

FESA also approved its budget for the 2026/27 season. Thanks to the acquisition of several new sponsors and partners, the federation enters the new season with a solid financial foundation, enabling continued investment in sport development projects and services for its members.

A significant milestone of the General Assembly was the admission of three new member associations:

  • Lithuanian National Skiing Association
  • Snowsports Association of Ireland
  • Ski Association of Slovakia

With the addition of these federations, FESA now unites 22 member associations across Europe, further strengthening its position as the continental platform for the development of snow sports.

FESA President Roswitha Stadlober concluded:

"This General Assembly showed the strong momentum and unity within FESA. We have defined a clear vision for the future, strengthened our partnership with FIS, and taken important decisions that will benefit snow sports across Europe. I am especially pleased to welcome the Lithuanian National Skiing Association, the Snowsports Association of Ireland, and the Slovakian Ski Federation to the FESA family. Their membership is another sign of the growing strength of our organization. Together, our 22 member associations will continue to create opportunities for athletes, coaches, and federations and shape a successful future for European snow sports."
